Meet Our Ohana

Sakara K. Blackwell, Director of Weddings & Events

Serial Entrepreneur & Creator. I love new ideas. I love Hawaii. Local girl, raised between Hawaii and Cali. I love to create, design, style and entertain. After spending a short amount of time with my clients, I can envision exactly what it is that they want, even if they can’t, and I will do whatever necessary to manifest that vision. I do better without a budget but if you have one, I can make it look like you didn’t. My company, DH Catering + Event Planning, and I have the pleasure of working with all the top purveyors in town which allows us to procure you the best product for the best price. Our team will design, plan, negotiate, manage and execute every detail with ease so you too can enjoy the celebration.

Kekoa Ornellas, Officiant + Celebrant

Our in-house Officiant, Kekoa, is a non-denominational licensed wedding officiant with the State of Hawaii. Of native Hawaiian descent, he was born and raised on the Island of Oahu in the spirit of true Ohana or Family as the Hawaiian culture emphasizes that families are bound together and members must cooperate and remember one another, whether blood-related, adopted or intentional.  Kekoa brings this spirit of ohana and offers it as a foundation to every ceremony he is a part of.  He currently resides on the South Shore with his partner, Sakara. When not performing wedding ceremonies or blessings, he enjoys family activities with his two children and anything that gets him out in nature, especially the ocean.

GJ Sakaguchi, Executive Chef (the wet one with no shirt)

It’s either chef’s coat or nothing. Born in Honolulu and raised in a family of chefs and restaurateurs, GJ has been in the kitchen his whole life. He had an earlier start than most, which included running his own shrimp truck by the age of fifteen years old.  It was only natural for him to continue his family’s culinary legacy by attending the The Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head where he graduated in 2012. GJ’s culinary passion and excellence is only surpassed by his love for the ocean.  As an avid surfer and fisherman, you will most likely find him surfing at his home break “Publics” where Barefoot Beach Cafe is located or spearfishing on the South Shore.
